Memories stuck in a looped repeat, playing over and over the episodes of things remembered. Muted, covered in dust, daubed with marshy water – partly in slow motion and partly frozen. Actions are slow endless serpents that forcibly coil, curve, collide and shatter into million reflective bites. Rewind. Repeat.
It glitches. I see a submarine coming out of water – monumental and ghastly beautiful, like an undisrupted, wet obelisk of ancient gods. In silent soar, it casts the All-Devouring Shadow over pine woods and dunes of the White Sea… I hear dolphins, although I know no dolphins exist in these boreal waters. This must be a distorted murmur of children’s laughter in the middle of July, the only mild week of the Northern summer that dribbles crowds onto its barely warm beach. {The Place on Earth - 6,5” x 11” oil on panel - for my solo exhibition opening this Saturday 6-8pm, Artist Talk (RSVP) 4pm on the same day Haven Gallery )
